Caching 101: What does real world data tell us about the impact of caching in schools?
Sergio Villegas - sergio.villegas@appliansys.com
Thanks to E-rate funding, schools across the United States have been able to upgrade bandwidth year-on-year as they cater for growing use of technology in class. But districts are finding that bandwidth alone isn't enough. Even the largest connections fail to guarantee delivery of web-based content and applications at the speeds required for teachers and students to benefit from personalized learning approaches.

One solution that many have turned to is web caching. Added to E-rate's Eligible Services List in 2015, caching stores web content the first time it is requested and serves repeat requests at LAN speed.

This presentation dives into web traffic data at a number of districts that have deployed caches to help technical teams understand precisely how caching helps achieve speed and eliminate classroom congestion.

Modern Video Security: Sandwich CSD #430 uses Verkada to bring video security into 2018
Glenn Bloemker, Director of Technology, Sandwich Community School District #430, speaks on his experience moving from on-premise video surveillance to Verkada. Verkada is a hybrid-cloud solution that allows you to access cameras from anywhere, anytime, and any device through an intuitive, modern browser-based web application. It eliminates the need for an NVR/DVR, Server, Thick-Clients, VMS software, and other archaic on-prem equipment – as a result, complexity and cost is greatly reduced and network security is vastly improved.

Reading Is Dreaming With Eyes Wide Open!
Tom Byelick - tbyelick@amplify.com
Will your third grade students be reading to at least grade level this year?  Data suggests some significant fall-out if this is not the case.  For example:
  • One in six children who are not reading proficiently in third grade do not graduate from high school on time, a rate four times greater than that for proficient readers.
  • The rates are highest for the low, below-basic readers: 23 percent of these children drop out or fail to finish high school on time, compared to 9 percent of children with basic reading skills and 4 percent of proficient readers.
  • The below-basic readers account for a third of the sample but three-fifths of the students who do not graduate.
Many schools and school districts are turning to Amplify for help in putting students on the path to reading success...and future successes as well! Amplify Reading is an amazing digital tool which helps struggling readers and helps proficient readers to grow even more!  Join us for a look!!
